The compex world of LAMP content management systems

Well if webdesign, scripting and databases isn’t complex enough – navigating through the many CMS (Content management systems) options available now is getting to be a real headache. At least they all seem to be converging to a degree, MVC architecture, easy install routinues and better documentation.

A few weeks ago I was looking at exporting a Virtuemart shop into Drupal/Ubercart and was liking the Ver 6 Drupal setup a lot. The Drupal world has it’s own language but once you get their concepts it starts to make sense.

Last week I was playing with www.concrete5.org which is a newcomer and in some ways beats the pants off Joomla and Drupal. But I can’t help thinking that it is not better enough for people to migrate. It also suffers (or benefits) from a very strong design vision by the core team which leaves a visitor thinking that the small number of modules (or blocks in their parlance) is kinda like a feature lock down. I guess it is just age.

Today I installed the latest WordPress, and that is really impressing. A nice UI and excellent documentation for development. I haven’t played with building modules yet but will be having a look over the next few weeks.
